Never Look Away
Werk ohne Autor (Original title)
Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck was another Oscar winner who came to the city to film. Here, a villa in the southern suburb of Görlitz was transformed into a Russian commander’s mansion. Further parts of the film were shot in the nearby small towns of Zittau and Großschönau and in Dresden.
Story
In the centre of the story is the young painter Kurt Barnert (Tom Schilling) fleeing from East Germany, who cannot forget about his experiences from his childhood and youth during the times of the National Socialism and the SED regime. When he meets the love of his life, student Ellie (Paula Beer), he is finally able to create images, which do not only concern his own destiny, but the traumas of a whole generation.
