Fabian: Going to the Dogs

First there were rumours about the actors in the old town and shortly afterwards there were already information sheets about street closures for the filming of "Fabian". Everything happened quickly and unnoticed, over night shop windows in Berliner Straße were redecorated as fashion shops, 300 extras from Görlitz and the surrounding area were selected and the shoot was suddenly in full swing - for a whole six weeks.

TV star Tom Schilling returned to Görlitz for the second time since 2016 to shoot a cinema production. For the drama based on a novel by Erich Kästner, Görlitz was transformed into Berlin, because "Fabian" is set in the German capital at the end of the 1920s and beginning of the 1930s. Attentive viewers will discover parts of Berliner Straße, the Neisse, Louis-Braille-Straße and many other places from Görlitz on the cinema screen. The film crew handed over some important props to the city of Görlitz, including the dress of the leading actress. In future, these will be presented in the sixth station of the Walk of Görliwood in Weberstraße.

Producer Felix von Boehm appreciated the good working conditions in Görliwood during the shoot. He already knew these from his father Gero von Boehm, who was in Görlitz for TV productions in 2005 and 2006. After his shoot, he was sure "we will be back."

The film won awards at the 2021 German Film Awards in the categories "Best Camera", "Best Editing" and "Best Feature Film" (Silver "Lola"). Fabian" had its world premiere in competition at the Berlinale 2021.
