Infrastructure

A modern, efficient and future-oriented infrastructure is the basis for the stabilization and further expansion of the business location Görlitz. Transport, supply and digital infrastructure are equally important. The city of Görlitz is designing and developing numerous projects that focus on the further expansion of the infrastructure with respect to sustainability, climate neutrality and digitization.

This makes the economic and cultural area between Bad Muskau in the north, Wroclaw in the east, Zittau and Liberec in the south and Dresden in the west even more attractive.

Transport – In the Middle of the Trans-European Transport Network

The city is already well integrated into the regional, national and international transport network. The European city is connected seamlessly to metropolises such as Frankfurt/Main, Dresden, Berlin, Kiev, Wroclaw and Prague. Görlitz is directly integrated into the Trans-European Transport Network III.

Traffic in the Future

As part of the structural development of the entire Lusatian region, various future projects in the transport sector will be implemented in the coming years. One of the goals is the strategic further development of the public transport offer through infrastructure and offer improvement measures as well as modernization or expansion of transport facilities.

The expansion of the A4 motorway, the digitization of the Görlitz-Dresden railway line and the ICE connection on the Görlitz-Berlin route are particularly relevant for Görlitz.

Comprehensive details can be found in the “Integrierten Verkehrsstudie” (integrated traffic study) of the Zukunftswerkstatt Lausitz (future workshop).

Digital Infrastructure

A large number of households and companies in Görlitz already have bandwidths of over 200 megabits per second and further development is currently taking place. This provides the prerequisites for digital work processes and a further adaptation of the work environment to modern requirements.

Supply Infrastructure: Cross-Border District Heating

The cities of Görlitz and Zgorzelec are working together for a modern, climate-neutral heat supply. They plan to connect the district heating networks of the two cities across borders and to jointly supply the residents with climate-neutral district heating – to be implemented by the end of 2030.

Medical Infrastructure

With two hospitals, a large number of resident specialists and senior and care facilities, Görlitz has a good medical infrastructure that needs to be expanded further.

The largest supplier in the region is the Städtisches Klinikum Görlitz with more than 1,450 employees. With seventeen specialist clinics, various medical centers and cooperation partners, the municipal clinic covers almost the entire medical spectrum. More than 68,000 patients are treated here annually as inpatients and outpatients. As an academic teaching hospital of the Dresden University of Technology, the Städtisches Klinikum Görlitz pays special attention to teaching and training highly qualified young professionals.

In order to train future doctors, hospitals and outpatient medical practices in the district of Görlitz also cooperate in the further education network of East Saxony.
